Expansion of Pilot Programs for Vertical Eco-Residential Housing Drives Standardization of “Sky Garden” Development

Date:2026-05-12

Abstract:
In 2026, Quangang District in Quanzhou, Fujian Province officially released the Implementation Plan for Vertical Eco-Residential Housing Pilot Projects, using policy guidance to promote the “a garden for every household” vertical forest housing model. The policy establishes detailed specifications for sky garden dimensions, greening requirements, and maintenance standards, creating broader application opportunities for landscape housing and outdoor design solutions.

In early 2026, multiple government departments in Quangang District, Quanzhou jointly issued the Implementation Plan for Pilot Vertical Eco-Residential Housing in Quangang District (Trial), aiming to integrate green ecological principles into urban architecture. According to the plan, vertical eco-residential buildings will incorporate both “private sky gardens” for individual households and “shared leisure greening platforms,” creating a residential model where every home features access to garden space and architecture is harmoniously integrated with landscape design.

The plan also introduces detailed technical specifications for sky garden construction. For example, cantilevered structures must have a height equivalent to no less than two natural building floors, with projection dimensions controlled between 2.4 and 4.0 meters. In addition, minimum greening area ratios are clearly defined. The introduction of these standards not only provides regulatory support for landscape housing design, but also creates new market opportunities for the outdoor furniture and shading products industry. The demand for lightweight, wind-resistant, and weatherproof outdoor products tailored to high-rise exterior terraces is expected to become an important new focus for furniture manufacturers.

From an industry perspective, the standardization of sky gardens signals a broader trend toward integrating outdoor living spaces into high-density urban housing. As residential outdoor environments become increasingly valued, demand is likely to rise for modular outdoor kitchens, balcony furniture, pergolas, awnings, planters, and other terrace-oriented products suitable for vertical living environments.
